It’s that time of year again. The folks over at Trip Advisor are handing out their illustrious Travellers’ Choice Awards and Vanuatu has fared quite well, beating two Fiji destinations in the top 10. Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu has been named #6 in the Top 25 Destinations — South Pacific in 2017 Trip Advisor Travellers' Choice Awards, ahead of Fiji’s Vanua Levu at #8, Taveuni Island at #10 and Viti Levu at #23.

Based on the opinions and reviews of millions of travellers from around the world, the awards, now in their 15th year, consider the quality and quantity of reviews for each specific category to rank popular hotels, airlines, holiday destinations, beaches and more. Setting the standard for the industry to aim for and for travellers to seek, these awards recognise the best of the best in the travel industry around the world.

Espiritu Santo received its #6 ranking thanks to its striking freshwater blue holes, spectacular rock formations, stunning beaches and world-class diving. Some of the not-to-be-missed attractions named in the awards were Espiritu Santo’s Mount Hope Waterfall, Millennium Cave, Champagne Beach and SS President Coolidge wreck dive. While Vanuatu diving is known for being some of the best in the world, the dive spots of Santo were recognised as some of the island’s best.

The pink sands and effervescent waters of Champagne Beach were also recognised by reviewers who ranked the beach #15 in Top 25 Beaches — South Pacific. With so many outstanding beaches on offer all over the South Pacific including Tahiti, Vanuatu has proved to be tough competition to beat with Santo’s other popular beach Port Olry Beach coming in at #17 ahead of Fiji’s Natadola Beach in Sigatoka at #18.
