Friendly Bungalows is located on the East coast of Tanna Island, 1 and a half hours drive from the Tanna Domestic Airport. This Vanuatu accommodation offers a quiet secluded location on the sand beach of Lowelkas Cove. Just 6 Kilometers away is the main focus point of Tanna Island, Mt Yasur Volcano making the Friendly Bungalows an ideal choice for those who wish to discover the volcano.

Other tourist hot spots on Tanna Island such as Port Resolution, the John Frum Cult village, waterfalls in dense jungle, hot mineral springs and the friendly faces of custom life and custom villages are all close by to Friendly Bungalows.

The rooms at Friendly Bungalows are basic however they offer the true traditional Melanesian experience. All Bungalows feature a veranda with a hammock ideal for reading a book and relaxing in the afternoon. Friendly Bungalows is an ideal choice for those travelling to Tanna Island and after a close locations to the Mt Yasur Volcano.

The rooms at Friendly Bungalows offer an Authentic Melanesian experience all rooms are made from local materials including thatched natangora & coconut roof, timber and bamboo floor and doors. Absolute beach location, facing pacific ocean. The bungalows are basic with limited facilities.

1 Bedroom Oceanfront Bungalow with Ensuite: Bedding is 1 Double Bed. Maximum room capacity is 2 Adults and Children.

2 Bedroom Oceanfront Bungalow with Ensuite: Bedding is 1 Double Bed and 2 Single Beds. Maximum room Capacity is 4 Adults and Children.

Dining

Friendly Bungalows has a sand floor, open guest dining area. The set menu is prepared from fresh seasonal local ingredients, including fresh fish and sometimes lobster.

Continental breakfast for each guest is included in room rate. Continental breakfast includes, fresh seasonal fruit, cooked breakfast (ie French toast, pancakes, omelets etc) and hot tea or coffee.

Lunch and dinner are cooked to order. Picnic lunches can be arranged during the stay. There are no self catering facilities on site. Meals are well priced and feature local produce. Please note that generally meal options are limited, if you are traveling with children it is suggested that you bring along some snacks.

Mt Yasur Volcano Safari

Departs Friendly Bungalows approximately 4pm, it is a 30 minute drive by 4WD over the ash plains and to the top of the volcano. Walk the last 200 meters to the volcano rim. Watch the sunset from the top of the volcano, and then watch the volcano erupt like fireworks into the night sky. Return to Friendly Bungalow at approx 9pm.
Tour includes transport and local guide. Safari tour to Mt Yasur volcano for Friendly Bungalows guests only.
Participation of the tour to Mt Yasur, a live volcano, is at own risk.

Getting There

Domestic flights from Port Vila to Tanna Island are available through Air Vanuatu.

Friendly Bungalows is in a remote location, property transfers are compulsory as the journey takes 1.5 hours and there are no public transfer options available on Tanna Island.

Power: Due to the remoteness of Friendly Bungalows the property runs on generators, please note that power is only available from dusk till approximately 10:30pm.
What to bring: All guests will require local currency (vatu) for entry in to local attractions and incidentals (food and beverage) as credit cards are not widely accepted.
